Egypt

Climate

Egypt has two different climatic zones.

Temperatures are higher on the plateaus (20 to 40°) than on the coast (20 to 30°). Rains are low in the north (200 mm per year) and insignificant in the south (1 mm per year), but their intensity can cause floods. Sunshine is high all year round (twelve hours a day in summer and nine hours a day in winter). Humidity varies by region (70% in the North, 50% in the center and 20% in the south ).

The coast (north of Egypt)
The coast has a dry climate with a hot season and a mild season. Sunshine is very high throughout the year.

Hot season (May to October)
Temperatures reach 30° in July and rainfall is nonexistent.

Mild season (November to April)
Temperatures reach 20° during the daytime (they sometimes drop to 8° at night). Rains (200 mm during the season) are low but their intensity sometimes causes localized floods. Frost and snow sometimes occur when an icy winds go through the coast and the hot desert winds cover occasionally the coast with dust in March and April.

The plateaus (center and south of Egypt)
Both desert plateaus have an arid climate with a hot season and mild season.

Hot season (May to October)
Temperatures are very high during the daytime (they often reach 40°) and low at night (they sometimes drop to 7°). Rainfall is nonexistent.

Mild season (November to April)
Temperatures are mild during the daytime (20 and 25°) and low at night (they sometimes reach 0°). Rainfall is rare (1 to 2 mm), humidity is low (20-30%) and sunshine is very high.
