Kyrgyzstan has a continental climate with four seasons.
Temperatures are low in winter and high in summer in the valleys (they are very low in winter and mild in summer in the mountains). Annual rainfall is higher in the western valleys (800 mm) than in the eastern valleys (200 to 300 mm). The peaks are permanently snow-capped. Sunshine is very high (up to 2 900 hours per year in some places).
Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are low (they sometimes drop to -30° when Siberian winds pass through the country). Rainfall is low.
Spring (March to May)
Temperatures steadily rise (but they are still sometimes below zero degree at night). Rainfall is moderate.
Summer (June to August)
Temperatures reach 30° in the valleys (they are lower in the mountains). Rainfall is very low or nonexistent.
Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures progressively drop (25° in September, 17° in October, 10° in November) and rainfall is low.
