The island of Reunion has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season.
Temperatures range between 18 and 31° during the year on the coasts (they vary between 5 and 25° in the two mountains of the island). The rains are higher on the east coast than on the west coast because the high mountains located in the center of the island stop most of moisture-laden clouds.
Rainy season (November to April)
Temperatures reach 30° on the seaside and 25° in the mountains. Rainfall is abundant : more than 4 000 mm per year in the south and in the east and 600 mm per year on the west coast of the island. The sky is often cloudy. Cyclones sometimes reach the island between December and March.
Dry season (May to October)
Temperatures range between 25° during the daytime and 18° at night on the coasts (they are cooler in the mountains). The rains are rare on the west coast of Reunion but they are frequent on the east coast. Frosts can occur in July and August beyond 1 800 meters.
