The Dominican Republic has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season.
Temperatures range between 28 and 31° throughout the year (they are lower in the mountains located in to the west of the country). Rainfall is higher in the mountains (2 500 mm but only 900 mm in the valleys) than on the north coast (1 800 to 2 100 mm), on the south coast (1 400 mm) and in the southwest (500 mm). Violent hurricanes sometimes devastated the country in August, September and October.
Rainy season (May to November)
Temperatures are high (31°) and rainfall is abundant (100 to 200 mm per month).
Dry season (December to April)
Temperatures reach 28° and rainfall is low.
