Climate

 
France has four different climatic zones.

Temperatures vary more in the east (5° in January, 24° in July) than in the West (9° in January, 26° in July) and in the southeast ( 12° in January, 28° in July). Rainfall reaches 850 mm per year in the west, 550 mm per year in the east and 700 mm per year in the southeast of France.

Western France
The west has an oceanic climate with four seasons. Rainfall reaches 850 mm per year.

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are constant (9°) and rainfall is high.

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise progressively (13° in March, 15° in April, 18° in May) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures are higher in the southwest (26°) than in the northwest (20 to 22°). Rainfall is low.

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures slowly drop (21° in September, 18° in October, 13° in November) and rainfall is high.

Eastern France
The east has a temperate continental climate with four seasons. Rainfall reaches 550 mm per year.

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures reach 5° and rainfall is low.

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise steadily (10° in March, 15° in April, 18° in May) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures reach 24° and rainfall (thunderstorms) is moderate.

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures progressively drop (21° in September, 15° in October, 8° in November) and rainfall is low.

Southeastern France
The southeast has a Mediterranean climate with four seasons. Rainfall ranges between 650 and 750 mm per year. Sunshine is very high (2 700 hours per year).

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are stable (12-13°) and rainfall is high. The sun shines five hours a day.

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise slowly (15° in March, 17° in April, 20° in May) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures are high (28°) and rainfall is low. Sunshine is very high (eleven to twelve hours a day).

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures steadily drop (24° in September, 20° in October, 15° in November) and rainfall is high.

The mountains (Alps, Pyrenees, Massif Central)
Temperatures are low in winter and mild in summer. Snow falls abundantly in January and February.
