Syria has two different climatic zones.
Temperatures vary more during the year:on the plateau and in the valley (5° in January, 35° in July) than on the coast (15° in January, 30° in July). Rainfall is moderate on the coast (700 mm per year) and low in the rest of the country (100 to 200 mm per year). Sunshine is high in December to February (six to seven hours per day) and very high in July and August (twelve to thirteen hours a day).
 The coast (northwest of Syria)
The coast has a Mediterranean climate with four seasons. Rrainfall reaches 700 mm per year.
Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are constant (16°) and rainfall is high. Clouds alternate with the sun.
Spring (March to May)
Temperatures are mild (20°) and rainfall is high in March, moderate in April and very low in May.
Summer (June to September)
Temperatures are high (30°) and rainfall is nonexistent (June to August) or very low (September). Sunshine is very high.
Autumn (October to November)
Temperatures are mild (24°) and rainfall is moderate.
The central plateau and the interior valley
The central plateau and the valley located in the east have an arid climate with a hot season and a mild season. Rainfall varies from 100 to 200 mm per year.
Hot season (May to October)
Temperatures reach 35° (sometimes 45° in the south). Rainfall is nonexistent and sunshine is very high.
Mild season (November to April)
Temperatures drop progressively drop from November (20°) to January (5°) and then rise to April (20 to 25°). Rainfall is very low (10 to 20 mm per month).
