Climate

 
Australia has five different climatic zones.

Temperatures vary less during the year in the north (30 to 32°) than in the center (19 to 36°), in the southeast (16 to 26°) and in southwest (17 to 31°). Annual rainfall is higher in the northeast (2 000 mm) than in the northeast (600 mm), in the southeast (700 to 1 200 mm), in the south (400 mm), in the southwest (800 mm) and in the center (150 to 300 mm).

The southeastern coast of Australia (New South Wales, Victoria)
The coast located in the southeast has a temperate climate with four seasons. Rainfall is regular throughout the year (they range between 700 and 1 200 mm per year).

Winter (June to August)
Temperatures are constant (16°) and rainfall is low. Sunshine ranges between five and six hours a day.

Spring (September to November)
Temperatures rise progressively (18° in September, 20° in October, 22° in November) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (December to February)
Temperatures reach 26° (they are sometimes higher for several days when a heat wave reaches the coast). Rainfall is moderate in the south and high in the north. The sun shines between eight and nine hours a day.

Autumn (March to May)
Temperatures steadily drop (25° in March, 22° in April, 19° in May) and rainfall is high in the north but moderate in the south.

The southern and southwestern coasts of Australia (South Australia, Western Australia)
The coasts located n the south and in the southwest have a Mediterranean climate with four seasons. Rainfall varies from 400 mm in the south to 800 mm in the southwest.

Winter (June to August)
Temperatures range between 16 and 18°. Rainfall is moderate on the southern coast and abundant on the southwestern coast. The sun shines five to six hours a day.

Spring (September to November)
Temperatures rise slowly(19° in September, 22° in October, 24° in November) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (December to February)
Temperatures range from 28 and 31° (they sometimes reach 40°) and rainfall is low or nonexistent. Sunshine is high (nine to ten hours per day).

Autumn (March to May)
Temperatures steadily drop (27° in March, 23° in April, 20° in May). The rains are low in March and April. They are moderate in the south and high in the southwest in May.

The northwestern coast, the northern coast and the northeastern coast of Australia (Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland)
The coasts located in the northeast, in the north and in the northwest have a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainfall varies from 2 000 mm per year in the northeast to 600 mm per year in the northwest.

Rainy season (November to April in the north and in the northeast ; January, to February in the northwest) Temperatures reach 32° and rainfall is abundant.

Dry season (May to October in the north and in the northeast ; March to December in the northwest) Temperatures range between 27 and 30°. Rainfall is very low or nonexistent.

Central Australia
The center has an arid climate with a hot season and a mild season. Rainfall ranges between 150 and 300 mm per year. The sun shines between nine and ten hours a day throughout the year.

Hot season (October tp March)
Temperatures rise from October (30°) to January (36°) and then drop until March (32°). Rainfall is low.

Mild season (April to September)
Temperatures drop from April (27°) to July (19°) and then rise until September (25°). The nights are cool and rainfall is very low or nonexistent.

Tasmania
Tasmania, located off the southern coast of Australia, has an oceanic climate with four seasons. Rainfall varies from 500 mm per year on the southern coast to 800 mm per year on the northern coast (the rains reach 2 500 mm per year in the mountains).

Winter (June to August)
Temperatures are constant (13°). Rainfall is heavy on the north coast and moderate on the south coast. The sunshine ranges between four and five hours a day.

Spring (September to November)
Temperatures rise slowly (14° in September, 16° in October, 18° in November) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (December to February)
Temperatures range between 18 and 22°. Rainfall is low and the sun shines seven to eight hours a day.

Autumn (March to May)
Temperatures slowly drop (19° in March, 17° in April, 15° in May) and rainfall is moderate.
