Austria has a temperate continental climate with four seasons.
Temperatures range between 1° in January and 24° in July (they are lower in the mountains located in the center and in the west). Rainfall is higher in the mountains (1 500 mm per year) than in the plain (600 to 800 mm per year).
Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are low (2°) or very low (-15°) when cold winds blow. Snowfalls are abundant in the mountains. Sunshine is low (two to three hours a day).
Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise progresively (9° in March, 13° in April, 18° in May) and rainfall is moderate.
Summer (June to August)
Temperatures range between 22 and 25° (they sometimes reach 30°) and rainfall (short and intense thunderstorms) is high. The sun shines nine to ten hours a day.
Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures steadily drop (19° in September, 13° in October, 7° in November) and rainfall is moderate.
