Temperatures are high in the southern plain (15° in January and 30° in July), moderate in the central mountains (13° in January and 26° in July) and low in the northern mountains (0° in January and 10° in july). Annual rainfall is higher in the plain (3 000 to 7 500 mm) than in the mountains located in the center (500 to 1000 mm) and the mountains located in the north (300 mm). The plain (southern Bhutan) The plain has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainfall ranges between 3 000 and 7 500 mm par an. Rainy season (May to September) Temperatures reach 30° and rainfall is abundant (rains are heavier in the east than in the west). Dry season (October to April) Temperatures are mild (15° in January) and rainfall is very low or nonexistent. Sunshine is high. The central mountains The mountains located in the center of Bhutan have a temperate tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainfall ranges from 500 to 1000 mm per year. Rainy season (May to September) Temperatures are mild (26°) and rainfall is moderate. Sunshine is low because the sky is often cloudy. Dry season (October to April) Temperatures are mild (they drop to 15° in January) and rainfall is very low or nonexistent. The northern mountains The mountains located in the north of Bhutan have an alpine climate. Rainfall is low (300 mm per year) and the peaks are permanently snow-capped. Winter (December to February) Temperatures are low (0°) and snow falls steadily beyond 3 000 meters. Violent winds frequently blow. Spring (March to April) Temperatures rise. Summer (May to September) Temperatures rarely exceed 10°. Autumn (October to November) Temperatures fall progressively and snow starts to fall.
