Climate

 
Italy has two different climatic zones.

Temperatures vary more in the north (5° in January, 27° in July) than in the center and in the south (11° in January, 30° in July). Rainfall oscillates between 700 and 900 mm per year in the north and between 500 and 900 mm per year in the centre and in the south.

Northern Italy
The north has a temperate continental climate with four seasons. Rainfall ranges between 700 and 900 mm per year.

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are low (6°) and rainfall is moderate. Sunshine reaches two to three hours a day.

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise progressively (12° in March, 16° in April, 20° in May) and rainfall is ihigh.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures range between 25 and 29°. Rainfall (thunderstorms) is moderate and the sun shines nine hours a day.

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures drop steadily (22° in September, 16° in October, 9° in November) and rainfall is moderate.

Central and southern Italy
The center and the south have a Mediterranean climate with four seasons. Rainfall is higher on the west coast (800 to 900 mm per year) than on the east coast (500 mm per year).

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are constant (13 to 15°) and rainfall is high. The sun shines four to five hours a day.

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise slowly (16° in March, 18° in April, 22° in May) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures range between 26 and 31°. Rainfall is low and sunshine is very high (ten to eleven hours per day).

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures progressively drop (26° in September, 21° in October, 16° in November) and rainfall is abundant.
