Climate

 
Spain has three different climatic zones.

Temperatures vary less on the northwestern coast (12° to 22°) than in the center (10° to 31°) and on the southern and eastern coasts (12 to 35°). Rainfall is higher in the northwest (900 to 1 800 mm per year) than in the center, the south and the east (300 to 700 mm per year).

The northwestern coast of Spain
The northwest coast has an oceanic climate with four seasons. Rainfall ranges between 900 and 1 800 mm per year.

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are constant (13°) and rainfall Is abundant. Sunshine reaches three hours a day

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise slowly (15° in March, 16° in April, 18° in May) and rainfall is high.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures range between 20 and 24°. Rainfall is low and the sun shines seven to eight hours a day.

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures slowly drop (21° in September, 18° in October, 15° in November) and rainfall is high.

Central Spain
The plateaus and the mountains located in the center has a continental climate with four seasons. Rainfall ranges between 300 and 600 mm per year.

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are stable (10° during the daytime, 2 to 3° at night). Rainfall is low and sunshine reaches five hours a day.

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise slowly (16° in March, 18° in April, 21° in May) and rainfall (short showers) is low.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures reach 31° (35° sometimes) and rainfall is very low or nonexistent. Humidity is low and sunshine reaches twelve hours a day.

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures drop progressively (26° in September, 21° in October, 14° in November) and rainfall is low.

The southern and eastern coasts of Spain
The south coast and the east coast have a Mediterranean climate with four seasons. Rainfall varies from 300 to 700 mm per year.

Winter (December to February)
Temperatures are stable (13° in the northeast, 16° in the south) and rainfall is moderate. The sun shines six hours a day.

Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise slowly (15° in March, 17° in April and 20° in May in the northeast, 19° in March, 21° in April and 25° in May in the south) and rainfall is moderate.

Summer (June to August)
Temperatures are high (27 to 30° in the northeast, 30 to 35° in the south) and rainfall is very low (storms in the northeast) or nonexistent (south). The sunshine reaches twelve hours a day.

Autumn (September to November)
Temperatures steadily drop (26° in September, 21° in October, 17° in November in the northeast, 29° in September, 25° in October, 20° in November in the south) and rainfall is high.
