Climate

 
Colombia has four different climatic zones.

Temperatures are stable throughout the year (28 to 30° on the seaside and in the interior plain, 24° at 1 000 meters and 18° at 2 000 meters) and annual rainfall is abundant (6 000 mm on the Pacific coast, 500 to 1 500 mm on the Caribbean coast, 1 000 to 2 000 mm in the central mountains and 2 500 mm in the interior plain).

The Caribbean coast (north of Colombia)
The Caribbean coast has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainfall is higher in the west (1 500 mm per year) than in the east (500 mm per year).

Rainy season (May to November)
Temperatures are high (30°) and rainfall is abundant (except in the east).

Dry season (December
to April)
Temperatures are high (30°) and rainfall is very low.

The Pacific coast (west of Colombia)
The Pacific coast has a very humid tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainfall reaches 6 000 mm per year.

Rainy season (May to November)
Temperatures is high (28°) and rainfall is abundant. Humidity is very high.

Dry season (December to April)
Temperatures are high (28°) and rainfall is high.

The central mountains
The mountains located in the center of Colombia have an equatorial climate with two rainy seasons and two dry seasons. Rainfall ranges between 1 000 and 2 000 mm per year. Temperatures are stable throughout the year. Sunshine is low (three to five hours a day) because the sky is cloudy most of the time.

First rainy season (April to June) and second rainy season (September to November)
Rainfall is abundant and temperatures are low or mild depending on altitude (24° at 1 000 meters, 18° at 2 000 meters and 12° at 3 000 meters).

First dry season (December to March) and second dry season (July to August)
Rainfall is moderate and temperatures reach 24° at 1 000 meters, 18° at 2 000 meters and 12° at 3 000 meters.

The interior plain (east of Colombia)
The interior plain has an equatorial climate with two rainy seasons and two dry seasons. Rainfall reaches 2 500 mm per year.

First rainy season (December to January) and second rainy season (April to May)
Temperatures are constant (30°) and rainfall is abundant.

First dry season (February to March) and second dry season (June to November)
Temperatures are stable (30°) and rainfall is high.
