Eritrea has two different climatic zones.
Temperatures are stable all year round on the plateaus (23°) while they vary from 30 to 40° (50° in the southeast) in the coastal plain. Rainfall is moderate on the plateaus (400 to 600 mm per year) and extremely low (150 mm per year) on the coast. The sun shines most of the time.
 The coast (east of Eritrea)
The coastal plain has an arid climate. Temperatures are high in January (30°) and very high in July (40°). They reach 50° in the desert (southeast). Rainfall is insignificant (150 mm per year) along the Red Sea and nonexistent in the desert.
The central plateaus
The plateaus located in the center of Eritrea have a temperate climate with a rainy season and a dry season.
Rainy season (July to August)
Temperatures reach 22° during the daytime (they lose 10° at night). Rainfall is moderate (400 to 600 mm).
Dry season (September to June)
Temperatures range between 22 and 25°. The coolest months are December, January and February.
