Mauritius has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season.
Temperatures vary little throughout the year (21 to 28°) on the coastal plains thanks to southeast winds which constantly refresh the atmosphere. The central plateau, located six hundred meters above sea level and surrounded by small mountains, has a cooler climate (temperatures range between 20° in August and 26° in February). The north and the west are warmer and drier than the south and the east. Annual rainfall is abundant : 900 mm on the west coast, 1 500 mm on the southeast coast and 5 000 mm on the central plateau.
Rainy season (November to April)
Temperatures range between 21° at night and 33° during the daytime. February is the hottest month with average temperatures of 27° in the plains and 22° on the central plateau. Sea temperature range between 22 and 27º. It rains heavily from November to April on the coasts but also on the central plateau (January, February and March are the wettest months). The hurricane season begins in December, continues in January and February and ends in March.
Dry season(May to October)
Temperatures vary little near the sea (17º at night to 23º in the daytime). July is the sweetest month with average temperatures of 22° on the coasts and 16° on the plateau located at the center of Mauritius. Rainfall is moderate.
