Temperatures vary a lot throughout the year in the valleys (32° in January, -7° in July). Rainfall is very irregular from one year to another ((700 mm per year on average). Rainfall reaches 1 500 mm per year. Rainy season (November to April) Temperatures reach 28° and rainfall is shorter but more intense than in the rest of the country. Dry season (May to October) Temperatures range between 20 and 25 degrees during the daytime and reach sometimes 10° (or less) at night. The sun shines most of the time. The east coast of Madagascar The narrow east coast of Madagascar has a climate with a hot season and a mild season. It is crossed throughout the year by clouds laden with water. Hot season (December to April) Temperatures reach 30° and rains are often torrential. Mild season (May to November) Temperatures range between 25 and 28° (they sometines fall below 20°). Nights can be very cold in August and September. It rains at least once a day. The west coast of Madagascar The plains of the west coast of Madagascar have a dry tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainy season (December to March) Temperatures are high (27 to 32°) and rainfall is abundant Dry season (April to November) Temperatures are mild (20 to 25°) and rainfall is nonexistent. The northwest of Madagascar The northwest has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainy season (December to April) Temperatures are high (30 to 35°) and rainfall is abundant (1 600 mm). Dry season (May to November) Temperatures are high (30°) and rainfall is nonexistent. Southwestern Madagascar The southwest of Madagascar (an arid region) has a tropical climate with a dry season and a rainy season. Rainy season (December to March) Temperatures are high (30°) and rainfall is low. Dry season (April to November) Temperatures are below 30° and rainfall is almost nonexistent.
