Climate

 
Madagascar has a subtropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season .

Temperatures range between 18 and 32° during the year on the coasts (they are 5 to 10° lower on the high granite plateaus located in the center of the island). The rains are higher on the east coast than on the west coast. Cyclones (mid-December to mid-April) can cause significant damage when they reach the coasts of the island.

The High plateaus (center of Madagascar)
The high plateaus have a moderate tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. Rainfall reaches 1 500 mm per year.

Rainy season
The climate is hot and humid during the rainy season (November to April). Temperatures reach 28 degrees and rainfall is shorter but more intense than in the rest of the country.

Dry season
The climate is mild during the dry season (May to October). Temperatures range between 20 and 25 degrees during the daytime and reach sometimes 10° (or less) at night. The sun shines most of the time.

The east coast of Madagascar
The narrow east coast has a climate with a hot season and a mild season. It is crossed throughout the year by clouds laden with water.

Hot season
The climate is hot and humid from December to April. Temperatures reach 30° and torrential rains often.

Mild season
The climate is temperate from May to November. It rains at least once a day. Temperatures range between 25 and 28° (they sometines fall below 20°). Nights can be very cold in August and September.

The west coast of Madagascar
The plains of the west coast have a dry tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season.

Rainy season
The climate is warm during the rainy season (December to March). Temperatures are high (27 to 32°) and rainfall is abundant

Dry season
The climate is temperate during the dry season (April to November). Temperatures are mild (20-25°) and rainfall is nonexistent.

The northwest of Madagascar
The northwest of the island of Madagascar has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season.

Rainy season
The climate is warm and wet during the rainy season (December to April). Rainfall is abundant (1 600 mm) and temperatures range between 30 and 35°.

Dry season
The climate is hot during the dry season (May to November). Temperatures are high (30°) and rainfall is nonexistent.

Southwestern Madagascar
The southwest (an arid region) has a tropical climate with a dry season and a rainy season.

Rainy season
The climate is warm during the rainy season (December to March). Temperatures are high (30°). Rainfall is low and sporadic.

Dry season
The climate is milder during the dry season (April to November). Temperatures are below 30° and rainfall is almost nonexistent.
